Photography has come a long way since I started in the sixties, when I took pictures for yearbooks and had to develop them myself. Technology has improved to the degree that with some training many people can create wonderful images.
A photographer, however, has much more training, practice and experience. Odd lighting, quick action, and a lack of confidence can hamper many people but a professional has experienced most scenarios and can handle surprises.
A professional can also dedicate himself to the task rather than the event.
